Helping Bowel Cancer UK save lives
Innovation Digital is pleased to announce the launch of a new web design for Bowel Cancer UK
About the Project
Bowel Cancer UK is a charity whose aim is to save lives by raising awareness of bowel cancer, campaigning for best treatment and care and providing practical support and advice. With its headquarters in London, they provide information and support for people with bowel cancer or those that want to know more about the disease.
After a competitive pitch, Bowel Cancer UK contracted Innovation Digital to develop their new website. Built in conjunction with a corporate rebrand, the site would act as a key communication platform for providing information and support, raising awareness of campaigns and events and educating people about Bowel Cancer. A key aim of the site was to encourage interaction with audiences through the sharing of information, personal stories, community news and events and encouraging involvement in the work of the charity.
The new site also aims to increase the number of online donations and encourage audiences to take part in fundraising activities and events. It was important therefore that the site offered good calls-to-action, a simple donation form and a warm, community-led theme to convey the great work of the charity and its supporters.
The Project
Innovation Digital’s challenge was to address the needs of all the users and to help raise awareness of the UK’s major health issues. Bowel Cancer UK was looking for a website that would be seen as the one-stop-shop for information about preventing, understanding and living with bowel cancer.
Deborah Alsina, CEO, Bowel Cancer UK said “We chose Innovation Digital for their breadth of knowledge and creativity which meant we were confident in their ability to understand what we wanted from a new website. The fresh look of the site together with the our new brand will help us to reach many more people who may be affected by bowel cancer. We are delighted with the results.”
Innovation Digital carried out a comprehensive user-centred design project to create individual user personas to help map out the content and functionality requirements for the new website. Card sorting was also conducted to categorise content and develop the site structure and information architecture. Innovation Digital worked closely with the Bowel Cancer’s communications team to define a website that would meet the organisation’s requirements while offering an engaging user experience.
The website was developed using a leading open source content management system (CMS), Umbraco and was produced within a very tight timeframe. The site allowed for information to be found quickly and easily and encouraged participation through sharing stories, events and interactive features. The site also encourages user engagement through social media tools such as YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.
Innovation Digital provided training on CMS, Web Copywriting, SEO and Google Analytics to ensure ongoing success of the Bowel Cancer website.
Graeme Fletcher, Marketing Manager at Innovation Digital said “It was a real pleasure to work with such an important UK charity. Putting their users at the heart of our development process and working from the outside in was central to the success of this project. The solution was also built with scalability in mind and we are looking forward to working in partnership with Bowel Cancer UK going forward and to continue to develop the website in-line with the organisation’s and users’ requirements."
