A user centred project for Healthcare Improvement Scotland
The Brief:
Innovation Digital carried out a user-centred design project for the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) on behalf of Healthcare Improvement Scotland which included the following key tasks;
- Mapping existing website content to key user groups
- Create a more user friendly information architecture (IA)
- Design new page layouts and templates
The Solution:
It was clear from the outset that Innovation Digital had to gain an in depth understanding of the types of information required by users and also understand their expectations. To this end, we surveyed over 20 users within the medical and pharmaceutical industry and asked them to describe, list and prioritise the kinds of information they frequently required from the system.
The Results:
We created a new information architecture for the site and designed wireframes for key pages. The Innovation Digital design team then created a new look and feel for the application and devoted substantial time and effort to simplifying and restructuring the drug search to feature a fast, powerful predictive function.
The project was constrained by extremely tight deadlines however Innovation Digital delivered the project well ahead of schedule.
Why this might be important to you:
By organising information into ways the user understands one maximises the chances of a positive user experience. In this example, user research allowed us to structure information the way users expected, and by adding additional functionality, like the predictive search engine, we enabled users to get to it quickly.
